DR. BENTON BROWN, BOARD MEMBER
Dr. Benton Brown is a proud Texas native, born in Oak Cliff and raised in the south Dallas area. He currently practices at Hendrick Medical Center South in Abilene, where he lives with his wife Rachel. He is a board-certified general surgeon, fellow of the American College of Surgeons, member of the National Foregut Committee, and specializes in the surgical treatment of reflux disease, cancer, hernias, trauma, emergency surgery, colorectal surgery, and pediatric surgery. He has served as a Tactical Physician for San Angelo Police Department SWAT and Tom Green County Sheriff’s Special Response Team, and is passionate about the health and safety of the men and women serving our community.
A cancer survivor himself, Dr. Brown’s personal journey has profoundly shaped his approach to medicine. His experience instilled in him a deep understanding of the importance of compassionate care, strong support systems, and clear communication during some of life’s most challenging moments. This perspective allows him to connect with patients and families in a meaningful way while navigating complex diagnoses and treatment plans.
Dr. Brown earned his medical degree and completed his surgical residency at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. In addition to his clinical work, he has participated in mission efforts across Africa, Central America, and the Middle East, providing care to underserved populations and gaining a global perspective on healthcare challenges.
As a member of the Abilene Back the Badge Foundation Board, Dr. Brown brings invaluable expertise in interpreting complex medical information and guiding critical health-related decisions. His ability to translate medical terminology into clear, actionable understanding is a tremendous asset as the Foundation supports first responders and their families through injury, illness, and recovery. His leadership, compassion, and commitment to service align perfectly with the Foundation’s mission to stand behind those who serve our community every day.
